Too many tasks at once?
No one said it was going to be easy, we can only adjust and adapt to whatever life throws at us. Six time management tips that will improve the quality of your life.
Like everybody else, I am overwhelmed by many commitments ( I am not complaining). I can’t let go of anyone so I realized I had to make time management my best friend. Here are 6 things I do to ensure I don’t miss out on any of my numerous commitments.
I start the day right: Once I am awake and have gone past the brain rebooting phase, I start any of the tasks I have. I usually go from the simplest to the hardest because it helps me gain momentum.
I make a checklist: Before this month started (Oh, happy new month, what day is it?) I downloaded the google spreadsheet and wrote down everything I need to accomplish every day for one month. This gives me the satisfaction of ticking stuff off my list, and it makes me feel like I saved the world.
I choose to be satisfied: There are times I don’t smash all my goals and it makes me feel unsatisfied. Recently, I watched a youtube video where he said, he chooses to be satisfied at the end of the day no matter what, so I decided to adopt that approach. No matter what happens, I will always choose to go to bed satisfied.
I do better the next day: One of the rules of consistency is never missing twice and if you are a Duolingo user, you will understand the feeling of regret that comes with seeing people reach a 100-day streak while you are struggling with a 15-day streak (totally unrelated but I had to put it in here). So, I fill in every goal I missed the previous day because I don’t like seeing empty spaces on my google sheets.
I remind myself of my why: There are times it gets overwhelming trying to smash all these goals and still keep your personal life afloat. Sometimes, I am torn between choosing either of the two. But, I remember my why; I hate poverty. It gives me the necessary fuel I need to keep going. 3 months from now, I don’t want to say “How I wish I didn’t quit” to myself.
I avoid timewasters and distractions: One of my biggest lessons in January was time management, it came like an epiphany, all the time I have wasted doing what wasn’t adding quality to my life. So, I reduced my talk time with certain people, deleted some apps, left some WhatsApp groups, unfollowed a lot of people on Twitter, etc. Start seeing your time as money and only spend it when it is necessary. This approach has helped me focus on more important things like my goals, sleep, and peace of mind.
I hope these few tips help you get in control of your time, if they do, write me back so I'll know. Alright, have an amazing week ahead, and like we say in Igbo, Ya gaziere gi (Let it work out for you).
